Position

We are seeking an experienced Nursery Manager to plan and implement the restart of the Meerkerk nursery for spring 2026 and continue to develop the nursery as a viable part of Meerkerk operations.  

As Meerkerk’s Nursery Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of the nursery and for providing excellent customer care in a clean, organized, and welcoming environment. You will be managing inventory from purchase to sale and will be responsible for maintaining budgets and ensuring financial goals align with the business plan you develop.

 Qualifications and Experience

·      Experience:  Proven expertise in nursery operations.

·      Education: An associate or bachelor’s degree in horticulture or a related field,  industry certifications, or equivalent work experience.

·      Horticulture Knowledge: A thorough understanding of plant care and best horticultural practices is essential, especially regarding rhododendrons.

·      Business Acumen: Demonstrated skills in business management, finance, and inventory control.

·      Leadership & Communication: Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication abilities to work effectively with staff, board, volunteers, and customers.

·      Technical skills: Competency with point-of-sale systems and inventory software, and Office365.

·      Physical Stamina: The ability to perform demanding physical tasks in varying weather conditions, including lifting heavy loads (50+ lbs.), bending and standing for prolonged periods.

Gardener Position

Position

We are looking for a reliable and capable Gardener 30 hours per week, to carry out gardening and groundskeeping duties under general supervision for a private, open-to-the-public garden in Greenbank, WA. The position starts in November.

The ideal candidate should be physically fit, friendly, professional, and passionate about gardening and working outdoors. This position reports to the Garden Operations Manager. The perfect candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Duties & Responsibilities

►         Oversight and maintenance of the permanent and seasonal plantings

•     Weed management, watering, fertilizing, mulching, dead-heading, transplanting, pruning

•     Pests and disease management as needed

•     Assist in the Nursery

►         Walkway Maintenance

•     Weed management/edging

•     Gravel raking

►         Assistance with non-horticultural projects

•     Brush pick-up and mowing

•     Fencing/light carpentry

•     Irrigation and minor construction projects as needed

•     Special event preparation

►         Safe use and maintenance of standard garden equipment including tractor, mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers, following health and safety regulations

Work Conditions

Outdoor physical work in all weather conditions; proper footwear required

•     Able to traverse uneven ground and moderate to difficult site conditions

•     Able to lift 40 pounds

•     Some work on weekends may be required

Compensation

$28/hour; 10 paid holidays a year

Qualifications and Experience

•     High school diploma or GED; at least one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

•     Valid driver’s license and good driving record

•     Ability to read, understand, and follow directions and safety procedures with precision and attention to detail

Desired Skills

•     Experience with irrigation systems

•     Ability to drive a stick-shift vehicle

•     Knowledge of the local climate, area history, regional plant life, and local pest controls

•     Knowledge of landscape design, horticultural best practices, and effective garden techniques

•     Basic fluency with computer and Office 365 Copilot
